BIO

This delicately featured, expressive actress broke the mould to some degree when she burst onto the scene as a teenager in the late 1980s with her unconventional, goth-inspired looks and a more whimsical and boyish femininity than your typical American girl next door. Ryder soon made a name for herself and brushed aside her doubters with strong performances in teen dramas and coming-of-age pictures such as Lucas and Square Dance, before she appeared in the more offbeat Tim Burton pictures Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands. As the 1980s turned into the 1990s, Ryder was one of the world's most sought-after actresses in her age group, and she was awarded with starring roles in big productions such as Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Age of Innocence, and Little Women. After the turn of the millennium, Ryder's career went downhill, among other things due to some personal problems, but she made a triumphant return with the cult series Stranger Things from 2016 and onwards.
