Pale and ordinary, but delicately beautiful actress who have kept a low profile since her start in the movies in the 1990s - a strategy which has served her well; with three Academy Award nominations to her name, it isn't just her looks which makes her reminiscent of Meryl Streep. In many ways though, Linney is the unglamorous version of Streep, often content to stay in the background, representing the everyday woman in Hollywood, if you like. Because there is nothing starry about Linney, she communicates real emotion and an understanding of the tangible.
