PORTRAIT

This boyishly handsome, devilishly charming Brit has captivated movie audiences since he broke onto the scene in the mid 1990s. I first saw him in I Love You, I Love You Not, and without knowing the first thing about him, I predicted him to become a star. Of course, by that time, he was already well on his way, and the following year, he had major roles in three big productions (Wilde, Gattaca, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil). Law's best year was arguably 1999, when he excelled in David Cronenberg's eXistenZ and Anthony Minghella's The Talented Mr. Ripley. In later years, he has not quite been his usual self, which has resulted in a couple of bad choices of character and performances below his usual high standards.
