Charming, capable actress who began her career in commercials in the early 1980s before landing her big break with The Karate Kid in 1984. After playing girl-next-door roles as the leading man's love interest in Cocktail (1988) and Back To the Future Part II and III, Shue's career stalled for a while before reaching its peak with an Academy Award-nominated performance in Leaving Las Vegas (1995).
