Pauline Kael’s life in service of cinema never quite becomes cinematic in this documentary on her life by Rob Garver. Though constantly fascinating, the film retains a slightly too prosaic quality. Kael was one of the greatest film critics ever; this documentary doesn’t quite match her craft.
