Review

There are a few moments during this half-baked crime-comedy-transvestite where Burt Reynolds is improvising and letting loose, at which point both his co-star Dyan Cannon and the film itself are vitalised, almost to the point of relevance. Except for these moments, however, Shamus is a steady showing of 1970s mediocrity, complete with overemphasised and unimpressive chases, sleazy conspirators and conspiring sleazeballs. Luckily (and somewhat weirdly), many such movies featured Burt, and that usually made them at least watchable.
