Review
The world portrayed in Serenity is comprehensive and detailed, making Joss Whedon's
feature film debut a weighty and rich creation at the intersection of
fantasy and science fiction – though in spirit the film leans more
toward the former. Stylistically and thematically, Serenity is
ambitious but only moderately inventive; we're given well-choreographed
action and adventure in a world where The
Matrix meets the western genre for an
intergalactic road trip. It's enjoyable at its best, but Whedon can't
avoid being only slightly less pulpy and geeky than he was with his previous TV series.
