Of course, the freshness in this series (if not in the entire parody subgenre) is long gone, and the necessity for Scary Movie 4 is entirely absent. For the second time, David Zucker helms a sequel in the Scary Movie series, and he recruits his old favourites Leslie Nielsen and Charlie Sheen, as well as buddy Jim Abrahams for the writing. The result is recycling of familiar territory, some useful spoofs on contemporary Hollywood films, and a handful of good laughs if you're lucky. More often than not, however, the jokes are not funny. And the script is, not surprisingly, largely disjointed and lacking a connecting thread. This might be called entertainment if you're prosaic, but funny it is not.
