Review
A timid young man (Michael Johnston)
cannot make himself tell the object of his desire (Inde Navarrette)
about his infatuation with her – but he may get some help from a
vintage novelty toy called a “One Wish Willow”. This remarkable
horror excursion by writer/director Curry Barker may be another
foray into supernatural territory, but the richness with which he
explores his characters and the remarkable craftsmanship at play
elevate Obsession to a truly absorbing viewing experience. As
with many of the best films in this genre, the horror doesn't
precede the themes, but instead comes creeping up on you. And it's
all remarkably accomplished thanks to impressive camera-driven
special effects by Barker and cinematographer Taylor Clemons,
combined with a phenomenal performance by Inde Navarrette in the
role of Nikki. This is horror that probes the human soul – our
dirtiest desires and darkest dispositions.
