Review

The crime mystery is fascinating enough, unless you're already familiar with it from news coverage or other sources. It's almost a reverse Reversal of Fortune: murder among the rich and famous, populated by European and transatlantic socialites. The filmmaker is called Hodges Usry, and his main instruments here are two idiosyncratic mythomaniacs who liven up the story, probably far beyond the documentarian's true goal: to uncover the truth. Unfortunately, except for the testimonies of Lady Colin Campbell and Ted Maher, Murder in Monaco mostly consists of old newsreels that cannot lift the film up from fairly run-of-the-mill true-crime territory.
