Review
On
the surface a peculiar and charming tale about an outcast middle-aged man,
suffering from amnesia after an accident, who must try to find his
way back into society. Aki Kaurismäki shoots his film with a colourful,
nostalgic lens, paying tribute to the Technicolor movies of the 1950s and
to the simple things in life, centered around our need to fit in.
The film is thoroughly subdued both in style and tone, and Kaurismäki's
stylized visuals and narrative make the film charming, but also
somewhat reticent.
