Review

James Woods is compelling as early 20th century serial killer Carl Panzram in this potentially gripping character study lacking a satisfactory framework. Robert Sean Leonard is well cast as Henry Lesser, the prison guard to whom Panzram confides his inner thoughts and secrets, but the  character is underdeveloped, and the relationship between the two lacks a dynamic. Writer/director Tim Metcalfe's work is too undaring and bland to make Killer: A Journal of Murder into the engrossing movie experience it should and could have been.
