Review
A 1990s-style thriller with that early-2000s grainy, colour-depleted visuals, directed by the
often bumbling
Gary Fleder. The opening is easily the film's best part; it
sets the stage for what could have been an engaging thriller, with a
jewel heist gone awry followed by the appearance of Brittany Murphy
as a mysterious mental case ten years later. Unfortunately, Murphy's
character is preposterous, and bad guy Sean Bean goes directly into cliché
mode, whereas Michael Douglas et al. take a little more time getting
there. The ending is a greatest hits of implausibilities and bad
directing. The late Skye McCole Bartusiak is aptly precocious as
Douglas' young daughter.
