Martin Landau
FILMOGRAPHY (ONLY REVIEWED ENTRIES)
A character actor with a reserved intensity and often a mystique that belied his everyday appearance. Landau made a name for himself with a masterful supporting role in Alfred Hitchcock's seminal North by Northwest in 1959, and followed up with another fine performance in Joseph Mankiewicz's gargantuan production Cleopatra. After focusing primarily on TV work and only appearing occasionally in film during the 1970s and early 1980s, Landau enjoyed a remarkable career resurgence in the late 1980s and 1990s, starting with his Academy Award nominated performances in Francis Ford Coppola's Tucker: The Man and His Dream and Woody Allen's Crimes and Misdemeanors. He then won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Bela Lugosi in Tim Burton's Ed Wood (1994). Landau remained in high demand for the rest of his career and continued working steadily until his death at age 89 in 2017.
