Review

A parody of the already parodical music career of "Weird Al" Yankovic, topped off with a parody of musical biopics in general, and the result is a mega-parodic mix. This film directed by first-timer Eric Appel and co-written by Appel and Al Yankovic himself almost plays like a Family Guy episode. It scores a few points on absurdities and occasionally funny ideas, before ultimately becoming somewhat repetitive and substituting said absurdities with threadbare action/comedy tropes. Daniel Radcliffe is industrious in the lead as Yankovic, Rainn Wilson is aptly extravagant as Dr. Demento – the real-life DJ and impresario who helped launch Yankovic's career – and Evan Rachel Wood delivers a fun rendition of a pathologically ambitious version of Madonna.
