Review

Peter Jackson has demonstrated his creativity and boldness over the last few years, not least with his gory masterpiece Braindead. With Frighteners he continues along similar thematic lines, but the comedy here is slighter and the story much less clever and edgy. This is closer to Ghostbusters than to Braindead. The film is visually impressive, but Jackson's Hollywood flirtations has resulted in too much of everything – not just blood.
